Dear Holy Flame,
If ‘Hope is the thing with feathers’, (thank you, Emily Dickinson) 
Then Joy is the thing that flickers!

Thank you for the caregivers in our lives.
For those who make us feel noticed, seen, and loved.
For the spouse who made our breakfast.
For the friend who follows up with a text.
For the neighbor who brings in a package.
For the barista who remembers our name.
For the stranger who extends an act of care.

Father in Heaven,
Thank You for fathers
Who are Your beloved sons.

May they be loving and wise
As they seek to provide and protect
The children You have entrusted to them
Each with distinct purpose and unique passions.

God,
Thank You for creating mothers
In Your bold and tender image.

Thank You for how mothers have reflected You—
Compassionate as a cleft in the rock,
Protective as an eagle brooding over her young,
Loving as the breath that gives us life. 

Father in Heaven,
Everything we have
Comes from You.

We pray for financial security
For our household,
And the households of our neighbors.

Thank You for dark mornings,
Where light unhurriedly arrives.
May rhythms of being rooted
Reform in us as autumn assuredly arrives.

Thank you for produce,
For the food from the ground,
Growing in it, on it, and above it.

Jesus,
You travelled many roads
And told stories of road travelers.
As we travel in the air,
May we be a good neighbor.

Father in Heaven,
Thank You for longer days;
When light arrives early, shines brightly,
And after amber sunsets, slowly leaves late.

May our prayer for food create a pause,
That enlarges our hearts through
Gratitude, confession, lament, and longing
For the availability of food for all.

Father in Heaven,
We thank You we live
Where public utilities are consistent.
Heat, water, and power form a foundation
For reliable work and rest.

Father in Heaven,
You rejoice over us with singing
And put songs of deliverance on our lips.
You counted off creation in rhythm:
Night and day, rest and work,

As you find yourself slowing down, Whether by age or aches,By fewer life demands or simply by choice, May you notice that your pace Might now reflect the holy cadence of God. 

Father in Heaven,

Thank you for Your hospitality,
For creating a place of beauty and order
A place where we experience goodness and joy

May the sounds of sirens in our neighborhood
Be bells that call us to prayer.

May our hearts be wise,
Help us number our summers
With our parents and our children,
Our spouses and our siblings,

Our gardens may not be a significant source of our produce,
they may be only a potted plant or bed of flowers,
but would every garden in our neighborhood be a living reminder of grace and growth.

May we wake with grateful hearts
May we walk with grateful bodies
May we talk with grateful minds
And may we live with a grateful spirit
