Mothers

by Brandi Galuzzi

God,
Thank You for creating mothers
In Your bold and tender image.

Thank You for how mothers have reflected You—
Compassionate as a cleft in the rock,
Protective as an eagle brooding over her young,
Loving as the breath that gives us life.

Thank You for how a mother’s presence has revealed Yours—
Inviting trust through silence without withdrawal,
Speaking wisdom into kitchens and cul-de-sacs,
Correcting with concern, not wounding with words,
Offering mercy without end.

Equip the mothers among us
To love deeply the particular children
You have entrusted to them—
Those they have held,
Those they have given a home,
And those they have only carried in hope.

May they extend Your love beyond their homes,
Into neighborhoods and communities,
So all may see You more clearly.

Hold our mothers securely in Your love—
When their children’s energy outweighs their strength,
When they have run out of answers,
When their hearts break at their children’s pain,
And when they must let go too soon.

May they know
You see them,
And You are with them,
In every beautiful and painful
Experience of mothering.

Thank You for mothers.
Amen.
